Mobile Paint Stripping & Surface Cleaning

What Is Soda Blasting?

In the past, the only way you could remove paint or some other unsightly material from a contaminated surface, was to either chip it off, sand it, use harsh chemicals or sand blast it. Now there is Soda Blasting. Soda Blasting is a process that can strip almost any surface in an efficient and safe manner. Although it is similar to traditional sand blasting, it has the significant advantage of cleaning the surface without causing harm to the substrate or the environment. Soda Blasting easily removes carbon, grease, oils, gasket material, surface corrosion, paint and coatings from a variety of alloys, plastics and composites without substrate damage or distortion. Soda Blasting leaves hard anodized coatings intact.

Soda Blasting is the latest, greenest technology to safely strip paint and/or clean nearly any surface. The soda blasting machine uses compressed air to deliver bicarbonate of soda-based media (baking soda) onto the surface to be cleaned. Similar in concept to sand blasting, soda blasting is much kinder and gentler to the underlying surface and the environment. The process is gentle enough to remove the coating without harming the substrate. Virtually any coating can be removed from most any surface. Soda blast media is FDA approved, non-toxic, and contains no free silica; it is non-sparking, non-flammable, non-hazardous, and environmentally safe.

Having used modified sand blasters for many years we felt the concept was great but the 1939 technology most so-called "soda-blasters" still use was lacking in performance and efficiency. After more than four years of development we now have a patent on a true SODA blaster that is the only true industrial soda blaster manufactured anywhere.

The Buster Blaster soda blasting system has a patented, self-cleaning venturi that requires little or no maintenance. The metering valve is precision fit to enable soda consumption to be reduced by 20 to 50 percent. The Buster Blaster runs consistently with no variation in the media flow throughout the blast job. The equipment is powder coated and the piping is stainless steel for long lasting quality and appearance. The Buster Blaster is the only patented Soda Blasting system available. The Buster Blaster is the only Soda Blaster designed from the ground up specifically for Soda Blasting and only for Soda Blasting. It is not a conversion or modification it is a true Soda Blaster.

The Soda Works and Muscle Car Workout Auction Items
to Provide Nearly 100k in Proceeds to the Boy Scouts of America

December 22, 2009, Walla, Walla, Washington & New Smyrna Beach, Florida: The Soda Works—the Washington state-based manufacturer of soda blasting equipment and media distributor—and Muscle Car Workout—the television show based on the premise of a step-by-step process highlighting various makes and models of cars in the "muscle car" era—today announced that they are working together to provide the Boy Scouts of America Central Florida and Occoneechee Councils with nearly 100k in proceeds from the auctioning of a Buster Blaster (The Soda Works) and restored vintage Chevy truck (Muscle Car Workout).

Both items will be auctioned during Barrett-Jackson's Collector Car Event which runs from January 18-24, 2010 in Scottsdale, Arizona; the event is televised on Speed Channel. Last year, Muscle Car Workout donated a vintage car which sold for $50,000 and, as Barrett-Jackson waives buyer and seller premiums for charities, the entire 50k benefited the Boy Scouts.

"This is a great event for everyone concerned," says Alan Goldstein, host of Muscle Car Workout. "We're pleased to be participating again and are donating a 1968 1/2-ton V8 Chevy Pickup with a long bed and factory air. More, we've introduced Joe Alexander of The Soda Works to the charity and the auction in hopes that he'd participate. It turns out he's donating an entire Buster Blaster (and the soda that's required to operate it) that we'll tow on stage with the truck. The best part is that this puts a value of $90,000-$100,000 for our combined donation," continues Goldstein.

Soda blasting cleans all types of delicate equipment and surfaces, eliminating sanding, soaking, scrubbing and is a replacement for destructive abrasive sand blasting. It is gaining in popularity for stripping antique cars, trucks, trailers, containers, heavy equipment; graffiti removal, surface rust removal and stain elimination. It is also used to clean wood and masonry, remove grease and oil, clean aluminum and stainless steel, sanitize food processors, and for mold remediation and fire restoration.

"Muscle Car Workout brought us this idea about supporting the Boy Scouts by donating one of our Buster Blaster units which they've had a lot of experience with as they use it on the show and I thought 'what a great way to make the equipment available while supporting a worthy cause'," says Joe Alexander, founder of The Soda Works and inventor of the equipment. "It turns out that the Boy Scouts and I have a passion for the environment so being able to support them as they celebrate their 100th Anniversary makes even more sense," says Alexander.

The Buster Blaster Unit—and a full pallet of soda, the medium used in the soda blasting process—which The Soda Works is donating is valued at roughly $45,000. More, Joe Alexander is suggesting that the purchaser may want to become a Soda Works Contractor. To this end, he will provide the necessary support to establish the bidder in the marketplace.

Behind every worthy charitable undertaking are people with a passion for the program they support and, in the case of the Occoneechee and Central Florida Councils, the spark for the donations are Lonnie and Carol Poole. Lonnie Poole, a North Carolina entrepreneur, founder of Waste Industries and developer of the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University has enjoyed a 58-year affiliation with the Scouts having become an Eagle Scout in 1951. He has served in numerous executive functions for the Scouts over the years and earned their prestigious Silver Beaver Award.

"Due to my involvement with Muscle Car Workout, a few years ago, Barrett-Jackson approached me about donating a car for charity to their prestigious Scottsdale auction. I told them that I wanted the proceeds to go to a charity that my wife, Carol, and I could support, namely the Boy Scouts and specifically the Council I'm involved in," says Poole. "On the heels of the success of last year's event, I am pleased that this year, two Councils will realize substantial proceeds from the continuing involvement of Muscle Car Workout and, now, The Soda Works. Having both involved means that meaningful checks will be written in support of the Occoneechee and Central Florida Councils," he continues.

Speaking on behalf of the Raleigh, North Carolina-based Occoneechee Council, Rod Frankel, its President comments, "The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating 100 years of providing educational, physically active outdoor programs for the youth of our country. To fund these activities, Scouting relies on the donations of those who strongly believe in the movement—corporate executives, Friends of Scouting contributors, former Scouts and their families. The Soda Works and Muscle Car Workout are two extraordinary examples of Friends of Scouting. Their generosity will help fund summer camp programs, leadership training, outdoor experiences, environmental education and character building exercises. Scouting changes the lives of our nation's youth in a positive way. We thank our supporters for their contributions and for their belief in the values of the Boy Scouts of America."
